This guide helps course providers add frequently asked questions, or FAQs, to course pages and keep reusable answers up to date.
How course FAQs work
Course Frequently Asked Questions or FAQs help answer common queries customers have about your course.
An FAQ is a saved question and answer that you can use on more than one course. An FAQ section is the part of a course description where you choose which saved FAQs to show and in what order. These are customer-facing course questions, separate from the Cademy Help Centre.
Customers see the Question and Answer / details. You control where the FAQ section sits in the course description and whether its answers start open or closed.
FAQs are shown on the public course page, in the FAQ section of the course description.
Older course-page example showing questions and answers. The surrounding page design has changed; the current FAQ section can be moved and does not have a fixed position above the map.
Before you start
Use a System Admin account or Course Owner access to the course. Facilitators cannot edit course FAQs. Ask a System Admin to check your access if the editor or FAQ settings are unavailable.
Shared answers affect every course using them
Check before editing: Saving changes to a shared FAQ changes the answer used by every course that selects it. If one course needs a different answer, create a separate FAQ and select that one for the course instead.
Creating or updating the shared FAQ saves that record immediately. Adding it to a course, changing its position or removing it from a section is a separate course change. Use the course’s Save button for those changes. Switching sections within an existing course editor can also save outstanding course changes.
Add FAQs to a course
FAQs are added in the course editor, on the Description tab, in the Frequently Asked Questions section of the course description.
Older editor example showing the Frequently Asked Questions section with Add FAQ, a selected question, and its grip, pencil and × controls. The section now sits inside the description editor and the surrounding editor has changed.
Open the Cademy admin dashboard and select Courses. Open the course, select Edit Course, then open Description.
Find the Frequently Asked Questions section. If it is missing, select FAQs in the Add: row below the description editor. This adds an empty section at the end of the description.
In that section, select Add FAQ.
Use Search FAQs... to find a saved FAQ, then select it. The list shows its Internal Name if it has one, otherwise its Question. You can search either. The selected FAQ appears in the course section.
Repeat for other questions, then select the course’s Save button and wait for Course saved.
Older recording of the Frequently Asked Questions section and its Add FAQ button. The surrounding editor has changed.
If you need a question that does not exist yet, create it from the same section:
In the course’s Description → Frequently Asked Questions section, select Add FAQ → Create New FAQ.
The Create a FAQ dialog opens. Complete the fields below.
Internal Name: an optional name for finding the FAQ in the admin dashboard. Customers do not see this name.
Question: the question customers see on the course page.
Answer / details: the answer, with any useful formatting or links.
Select Create FAQ. Check for FAQ created; the dialog closes and the new FAQ appears in this course section.
Select the course’s Save button and wait for Course saved to save that placement.
Creating the FAQ adds it to the shared library even if you later leave the course without saving its placement. The picker omits questions already selected in this particular section.
Change question order and initial display
Open Courses, open the course and select Edit Course → Description. Find its Frequently Asked Questions section.
To reorder questions within the section, drag the grip beside a question into its new position.
To set how answers first appear, hover over or select the FAQ section and open its gear control, Section settings.
In FAQ Settings → Default display, choose Collapsed or Expanded. Collapsed starts answers closed so customers expand them; Expanded shows answers when the page loads. New sections start Expanded.
Select Done, then save the course and check for Course saved.
To move the entire FAQ section, drag the section’s handle in the left margin of the description editor. This is separate from the grips beside individual questions. Save the course after moving the section.
For a published course, use Open in new tab beside Share at the top of the course editor to check the public questions, answers, order and initial display. For an unpublished course, check the editor’s selected questions and settings; check the public page after publication.
Edit an answer or remove it from this course
To edit an answer, open Courses, open the course and select Edit Course → Description. In Frequently Asked Questions, select the pencil beside the question. Update Internal Name, Question or Answer / details, then select Update FAQ and check for FAQ updated. This saves the shared answer immediately across courses using it.
For a different answer on just one course, create a separate FAQ using Add FAQ → Create New FAQ. Remove the old question from this section, keep the new one selected and save the course. Do not edit the shared answer if other courses still need it.
To remove one question from a course section, select the × beside that question, then save the course. The shared FAQ remains available in the library and on other courses.
To remove the whole FAQ section, hover over or select it and choose its Delete section control. The section is removed without a further confirmation dialog; save the course to keep that change. This removes the section, not the shared FAQ records.
Manage the shared FAQ library
Use Settings → Course FAQs when you want to prepare reusable questions or edit the library without starting from a course.
Older Settings example. Course FAQs, the question list and New FAQ remain the relevant controls; the surrounding sidebar and other settings have changed.
Open Settings → Course FAQs in the admin dashboard.
Select New FAQ.
Complete Internal Name if useful, then Question and Answer / details.
Select Save FAQ. Check for FAQ created; the page opens the saved FAQ for editing.
Return to the intended course’s Edit Course → Description. In its Frequently Asked Questions section, use Add FAQ to select the saved question, then save the course.
Creating a FAQ in Settings does not add it to a course automatically. To edit an existing shared FAQ, select its row in Settings → Course FAQs, change the fields and select Save FAQ. Check for FAQ updated and review the affected course pages.
Delete a shared FAQ
Check its uses first: Deleting a shared FAQ removes the saved question and answer. Courses that still refer to it lose that answer. If you only want to remove it from one course, remove it from that course’s FAQ section instead. Do not rely on a deletion warning to identify every course using it.
Check the courses that use the FAQ and replace or remove their selections, then save those course changes. If you cannot establish where it is used, ask a System Admin or Support to check before deleting.
Open Settings → Course FAQs. Find the intended FAQ and open the cog menu at the end of its row.
Select Delete... to open the Are you sure? confirmation. Check the question or internal name shown.
Select Delete only when ready to remove the shared record. Check for FAQ deleted and that its row has disappeared.
If deletion does not complete, do not assume the FAQ was removed. Check the list again. If a message says it is attached to courses after you have removed the visible selections, ask Support to investigate; send the FAQ’s name and any message shown. Removing visible selections does not guarantee that every older course reference has been cleared.
Frequently asked questions
Will changing an answer update it on other courses?
Yes. Updating the shared FAQ changes the answer used by every course that selects it. Create a separate FAQ when one course needs different wording.
Can customers see the Internal Name?
No. It helps you identify the FAQ in the admin dashboard. Customers see the Question and Answer / details.
Why is a FAQ missing from Add FAQ?
The picker excludes FAQs already selected in that section. Check the section first, then search by Internal Name or Question. If the shared record is absent from Settings → Course FAQs, create the required FAQ before selecting it.
Why is my saved FAQ missing from the public course page?
Saving a shared FAQ does not by itself place it on a course. Check that the intended course’s Description contains an FAQ section with that question selected, save the course and check its published page. If the editor shows FAQ not found, the selected record is unavailable; select a valid saved FAQ and save the course.
Does removing a question from one course delete the shared FAQ?
No. The × control removes its selection from that course section. Deleting the shared record is a separate action in Settings → Course FAQs.
Who can I ask if I still have questions?
