Use this guide to choose your account’s default currency, set a course or membership currency, and check how currency affects gift cards and discounts.
A currency is the money unit used for a price, such as GBP or USD. Your account currency supplies defaults for new items. A course, membership, existing order or gift card can have its own saved currency.
System Admins manage account payments, memberships, gift cards and discounts. A Course Owner with access to a course can edit that course’s currency. If the required page is unavailable, ask a System Admin. Memberships and Gift Cards also depend on the corresponding app being installed.
Changing a currency is not an exchange-rate conversion. Review the numeric prices before saving. For example, changing a course priced at 100 from GBP to USD does not calculate the USD equivalent of £100. Check existing gift cards, discounts and payment arrangements before changing a currency used for sales.
Choose the right currency setting
Account default and course selector: GBP (British pound), USD (US dollar), EUR (euro), AUD (Australian dollar), CAD (Canadian dollar), NZD (New Zealand dollar), ZAR (South African rand) and MYR (Malaysian ringgit).
Membership Currency dropdown: currently offers GBP, USD, EUR and MYR. Do not assume it offers every account currency. If a new or existing membership shows no matching option, contact Cademy Support before saving.
Payment methods: Cademy does not offer PayPal or Klarna for MYR or ZAR. Other payment availability also depends on the account and enabled methods. A currency appearing in a selector does not promise every payment method can collect it.
The currency charged to the customer can differ from the currency paid into your bank account. For Stripe, check its currency guidance for settlement and possible conversion charges. Choosing a Cademy currency does not change your bank or payment-provider settings.
Set the account default currency
Open Settings > Payments as a System Admin.
Expand Currency. Under Set Account Currency, select the intended currency.
Check that you have not made other unwanted changes on the Payments page, then select Save in the Currency section.
Reopen the page and expand Currency again to check the saved value. If there was an error or the value did not persist, resolve it before creating new items.
New courses use this default unless another currency is supplied. New membership forms start from the account currency, but you must check the membership’s own available option and price. New gift cards use the account currency. Changing this default does not convert the prices of existing courses or rewrite existing purchases and subscriptions.
After changing the default, check each new course, membership and gift card before offering it to customers. Also review fixed-value discounts before saving edits to them; their currency uses the current account setting.
Set a course currency
Go to Courses, open the intended course and select Edit Course.
Open the Settings tab, then Payments. Under Payment Methods, find Course Currency.
Select the intended currency. Review the course’s prices and any date-specific offers before saving; their amounts are not converted for you.
Select Save at the top of the course editor.
Reopen Settings > Payments and confirm the saved Course Currency. Open the customer-facing course page and check its price and currency before directing customers to book.
Different courses can use different currencies. Existing orders retain their own recorded currency; changing a course is not a way to convert an existing order, invoice or payment. If you need to adjust an existing purchase, check that record separately before making changes.
Set a membership currency
Open Memberships > Membership Plans as a System Admin. Open the membership you want to change.
Check Price and choose an offered value in Currency. Review both together; changing Currency does not convert the price.
Select Save Membership. Wait for the result, then reopen the plan and check its saved price and currency.
Use Share to inspect the customer-facing membership page before offering the updated plan.
For a new plan, start with New Membership and check Currency as part of completing the plan. Each plan has one currency. Separate plans can be used for different offered currencies.
Editing a membership does not update existing subscriptions. New subscriptions use the saved plan currency; existing subscriptions retain theirs. If an existing customer needs a different currency, contact Cademy Support about the appropriate next step before cancelling or creating a replacement subscription.
Check gift card and discount currencies
The current Admin dashboard has separate Gift Cards and Discounts pages. They do not share one universal voucher-currency selector.
Gift Cards: new gift cards use your account currency. The creation form does not offer a separate currency picker. Open an existing card under Gift Cards to inspect its Initial amount and Current amount; changing the account default does not convert that card.
Gift card redemption: a gift card in a different currency from the course is refused when the customer applies the code at checkout. Check that the card and the course being booked use the same currency before the customer tries to redeem it. If their currencies differ, contact Cademy Support; do not change a live course simply to bypass the error. For creating and redeeming gift cards, see Create, Sell and Redeem Gift Cards.
Fixed-value discounts: in the current Discounts editor, the fixed amount uses the account currency and there is no separate currency picker. Saving an existing fixed-value discount after changing the account default also uses the new account currency. Check the amount and intended courses before saving.
Percentage discounts: a percentage such as 10% does not have a fixed monetary currency. Older fixed-amount promo codes can carry their own saved currency; if one fails, provide its code and the course link to Cademy Support.
What customers see
Course prices and checkout
Course prices and checkout amounts use the course’s currency. Check the currency code as well as the symbol when both are shown. If only a symbol such as $ is shown and the currency is unclear, confirm it with the course provider or Cademy Support before paying or redeeming a gift card. Review the final summary, including extras, discounts, tax and any remaining payments, before paying.
Courses in different currencies cannot be combined in one order. A customer adding one to a basket in another currency is told it must be booked separately.
Memberships
The membership offer shows its price and currency. Existing subscription charges follow the subscription’s recorded currency, even after the membership plan changes.
Gift cards
Check the currency shown on the gift card and its balance before redeeming it. A gift card in a different currency from the course is refused when the code is applied at checkout. Do not assume its amount will be converted. Ask Cademy Support to review a mismatch.
Emails and notifications
Check the currency against the relevant order or subscription when reviewing a message. Standard subscription messages use the subscription’s recorded currency. Custom email text may include amounts you entered yourself, so review that text when changing prices or currency.
If a currency or price looks wrong
Wrong currency on an existing course: check that course’s Settings > Payments. Changing the account default alone does not change it.
Unexpected membership dropdown: check the offered options; do not save a blank or unintended value. Ask Cademy Support if the saved or default currency has no matching option.
Payment method unavailable: check course currency and enabled payment methods. PayPal and Klarna are unavailable for MYR and ZAR in Cademy.
Unexpected tax: check the account’s Tax / VAT settings and the course’s tax profile. Tax display is not restricted to GBP; choosing USD or EUR does not turn tax off.
Save failed or result unclear: reopen the record and check its saved value before repeating the change. Contact Cademy Support with the record link, intended currency and error if it remains unclear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set different currencies for different courses?
Yes. Each course has its own Course Currency in Edit Course > Settings > Payments. Courses using different currencies need separate orders.
Will changing currency convert my prices?
No. Review and set the intended numeric prices yourself before saving. Existing purchases keep their own recorded currency.
Can I change the currency of an existing membership subscription by editing the plan?
No. Editing a membership does not update existing subscriptions. Ask Cademy Support before cancelling or replacing one to change currency.
Can one membership offer several currencies?
Each membership plan has one currency. You can create separate plans using the currencies offered in the membership editor.
Why can a gift card not be used for a course?
Check the card and course currencies, remaining balance and any other restrictions shown. A gift card in a different currency from the course is refused when the code is applied at checkout. Not every redemption error is a currency error.
Is VAT only displayed for GBP courses?
No. Tax display depends on the applicable tax settings and profile, not simply on whether the course currency is GBP.
