Create a Course Collection to Share or Embed

Group several courses into a collection page with its own link, image, description and layout, then share it or embed it on your website.

Written by Artur Binzaru

This guide is for course providers who want to put a chosen group of courses on one page, with its own link, and share that page or embed it on their own website.

A course collection brings a chosen set of courses together with a name, an optional image and a description. A collection has a direct link and can be embedded on a website. Public collections also appear above the course list on your minisite’s Courses page. You can group courses by topic, location, audience or date, for example. A course can belong to more than one collection.

To let customers filter all your courses by subject instead, use categories and tags: see Add Categories and Tags to Courses.

Who can do this: Use a System Admin account or Course Owner access to create and edit collections. Changing the profile layout or opening Apps requires System Admin access. You also need permission to edit your own website before adding an embed.

Create a Page That Lists Some of Your Courses (Course Collection)

Use a collection when you want a selected group of courses with its own link or website embed. Adding a course to a collection does not publish the course.

Private is not access protection: A Private collection is hidden from public collection displays, but people with its direct link can still open it. Do not use this setting to protect confidential course information.

Create a Collection in Settings → Course Collections

  1. In the admin dashboard, select Settings → Course Collections, then New Collection.

  2. Enter a Name. Add an optional Image and Description if they help explain the group.

  3. Choose Public to include the collection in public collection displays, or leave Private selected to keep it out of those displays.

  4. Under Add courses, select Select a course… and choose a course. Repeat for each course you want to include.

  5. Select Save Collection. After Collection created, the saved collection has Share and Embed links.

Settings, Course Collections. The list has the columns Collection and # Courses and the button New Collection at the right of the heading row. Six collections are listed, each with a small picture or a coloured square, its name, its number of courses and Public or Private: First Aid Courses 4, Online Courses 3, Training for Teams 4, Fire Safety Courses 1 and Health and Safety Essentials 3 are Public; Courses for Care Homes 3 is Private. Course Collections in the Settings menu and the button New Collection are outlined.

The saved collection Training for Teams open in Settings, Course Collections. At the top: Back, then Embed, Share and the button Save Collection. Below: Name with Training for Teams, Image with the collection picture and the button Select Image, Description with one sentence, Visibility with Public selected and Private beside it, Add courses with the field Select a course…, and Courses in this Collection: with four courses, each with its photo and a red cross: First Aid at Work, On-site First Aid Training and Fire Marshal Training read Published, Risk Assessment Workshop reads Unpublished. Delete Collection is under the list. The button Save Collection is outlined.

Create a Collection While Editing a Course

Use this alternative when you are already working on the course that should be the first member of a new collection. Collection choices on this route save immediately.

  1. Open Courses, open the course, then select Edit Course → Share.

  2. Find Add to Collections and open Search & select collections.

  3. Type the new collection name and choose the option to create it. The collection is created and includes this course.

  4. Open Settings → Course Collections and open the new collection to set its description, image or visibility. Select Save Collection after making those changes.

Share tab of the course editor for the course Emergency First Aid, with the cards Public, Course Link, Add to Collections and Embed Course. Under Add to Collections, the collections field holds one collection, First Aid Courses, with a cross to remove it. The Share tab, the heading Add to Collections and the chosen collection First Aid Courses are outlined.

Add or Remove Courses in a Collection

Add or Remove Courses From the Collection Editor

  1. Open Settings → Course Collections and select the collection.

  2. Under Add courses, use Select a course… to add another course. The courses already selected appear under Courses in this Collection:.

  3. To remove a course from this group, use the cross beside that course.

  4. Select Save Collection and wait for Collection successfully updated. Reopen the collection to check its members.

Removing a course from a collection does not delete the course. Published and Unpublished labels in the collection editor describe each course’s publication state.

Add or Remove a Course From Its Course Editor (Share Tab)

For an existing course, open Courses → the course → Edit Course → Share. Under Add to Collections, select the desired collections in Search & select collections, or remove a selected collection. Each selection change saves immediately; wait for Collections updated. There is no separate Save Collection step on this route.

Share or Embed a Course Collection

Share One Link to a Group of Courses (Collection Link)

  1. Open Settings → Course Collections and select the saved collection.

  2. Select Share. Its customer-facing course list opens in a new tab.

  3. Copy the address from the browser’s address bar. Check that the page shows the intended group before sharing the link.

The Share link also opens a Private collection. Public course availability and any selected filters still determine which courses appear.

Embed a Collection on Your Website

A System Admin needs Cademy Embeds available in Apps. If it is not installed, follow the embedding guide linked below before configuring the collection. You also need access to add the required code to your website.

  1. Open the saved collection under Settings → Course Collections and select Embed. This opens the embed builder with the collection selected.

  2. Check Multiple Courses → Content → A Collection and confirm the selected collection. Choose a layout and check the Desktop and Mobile previews.

  3. Select Get Code. In Add This Embed to Your Website, choose General, WordPress, Wix or Squarespace under Your Platform.

  4. Follow the displayed Steps, using Embed Code or, for Wix, Embed Address. Add Helper Script - Once Per Site in the stated location. Ask the person who maintains your website to do this if you do not have that access.

  5. Open the website page and check that the intended collection appears.

The Embeds builder as the Embed link of the collection First Aid Courses opens it: Multiple Courses chosen, A Collection selected under Content with First Aid Courses under Select a collection, the layout Grid, and the preview showing the four courses of the collection; Select a collection with First Aid Courses chosen is outlined.

For the complete installation steps, see Embed Courses or Forms on Your Website. To start directly in Apps instead, open Cademy Embeds, choose Multiple Courses → Content → A Collection, then select your collection.

Why the Embed Code for a Collection of Courses Changes After You Copy It

The embed code holds the embed’s setup: the collection it shows, its layout and its options. When you change any of these in the embed builder, the code changes. Select Get Code again and replace the code, or the Wix address, on your website page.

Adding or removing courses in the collection does not change the code. The embed reads the collection’s current courses from Cademy, so refresh your website page to see the change.

If the code on your website page is not the same as the code shown in Get Code, replace it with a fresh copy and paste it into the block that your platform’s steps name.

If Your Embedded Collection Code Shows an Error on Your Website

If the collection embed shows an error, a blank space or no courses on your website, check these points:

  • Where the code is pasted: paste the Embed Code into the place your platform’s steps name: the page’s HTML for General, a Custom HTML block in WordPress or a Custom Code block in Squarespace. On Wix, paste the Embed Address into the Website Address of an Embed a widget block, not the Embed Code.

  • The whole code: copy all of the Embed Code shown in Get Code, not only part of it, and replace the old code on the page.

  • The helper script: add Helper Script - Once Per Site in the location the steps state. It lets the embed resize to fit its content and keeps checkout working inside the embed.

  • The collection and its courses: a deleted collection, or a collection whose courses are not published, shows no courses. Open Settings → Course Collections to check that the collection exists and that its courses read Published.

If the embed still shows an error, contact Cademy Support with the address of your website page, the collection name, your website platform and a screenshot of the error. See Contact Your Course Provider or Cademy Support.

Show Recommended Courses to a Client’s Users

To point a client company’s staff to the courses you recommend for them, put those courses in a collection and give the client its link, or embed it on a page they use.

  1. Create a collection with the recommended courses, as described above. Leave Private selected if the collection should not appear among the collections on your minisite.

  2. Open the collection and select Share, then send the address to your contact at the client. To show the courses on the client’s own intranet or website, select Embed instead and give the code to whoever maintains that page.

  3. The client’s staff open a course from the collection and book it in the usual way.

Collections are not shown inside a learner’s account; it shows only their own courses, orders and saved courses. A Private collection does not stop other people opening its link. To arrange a date for one company, use a private course date linked to its organisation. It is hidden from listings, but the link does not restrict booking to that company. See Offer a Private Course Date for One Group or Company.

Customise a Course Collection

Choose a Collection Image

Courses page of the Harbour Training minisite with the collections shown as a grid: First Aid Courses with its own picture and, below it, Health and Safety Essentials with a coloured card instead of a picture; both are outlined

Examples of collection images and a coloured fallback card. Choose an image that helps customers recognise the group.

  1. Open Settings → Course Collections and select the collection.

  2. Under Image, select Select Image, choose or upload an image in the media picker, then select Confirm.

  3. Select Save Collection, then use Share to check its customer-facing page.

If you leave the image blank, the collection uses a fallback image or colour.

Add a Collection Description

Courses page of the Harbour Training minisite opened from a collection’s Share link, as a customer sees it: under the tabs Courses, About, Reviews, Vouchers and Contact Us, the collection name Training for Teams as a heading and below it its description, Courses we can run for your whole team, at your workplace or at ours, which is outlined. Under the description, the search box and the filters Delivery, Location, Collection (showing 1 selected), Category and Tags, then the collection’s three courses: First Aid at Work, Edinburgh, Multiple Dates, £125 to £230; Fire Marshal Training, Edinburgh, Tue 24 Nov, £95; On-site First Aid Training, Edinburgh + 1 more or Online, Flexible Dates, £480 to £780; each rated 4.7 from 6 reviews.

Open Settings → Course Collections, select the collection and enter the explanation under Description. Select Save Collection, then open Share to check the description above that collection’s course list.

Show Collections as a Carousel or Grid on Your Minisite

  1. As a System Admin, open Profile in the admin dashboard and select Profile Page Options.

  2. Under Collections Layout, choose Carousel or Grid, then select Save Changes. Carousel is the default.

  3. Open your minisite’s Courses page to check its collections. With fewer than five displayed collections, it uses a grid even if Carousel is selected.

Profile page with Profile Details and Terms of Service closed and Profile Page Options open: Collections Layout with Carousel selected and Grid beside it, Contact form dropdown with three subjects and Add Dropdown Option, and Main Course Keyword; Collections Layout with the Carousel and Grid choices is outlined, and so is Save Changes

Example of the Collections Layout choice under Profile Page Options, with Carousel selected.

An embed showing All Published Courses in a layout other than Calendar has its own Collections Row choice, which can override the profile setting. This choice is not shown for an embed set to A Collection. Check the specific embed rather than assuming it matches the minisite.

Delete a Course Collection

Check where its Share link or embed is used before deleting a collection. Those references need updating when the collection is removed.

  1. Open Settings → Course Collections and select the collection you no longer need.

  2. Select Delete Collection, read the confirmation, then select Delete if you want to remove it permanently.

  3. Check the Course Collections list. The collection is removed; its courses remain in Cademy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Private stop other people opening a collection?
No. It hides the collection from public collection displays. Anyone with its direct link can still open it.

Why did my collection change before I selected Save?
Selections under a course’s Share → Add to Collections save immediately. The separate collection editor uses Save Collection.

Does adding a course to a collection publish it?
No. Collection membership and course publication are separate.

Does deleting a collection delete its courses?
No. It removes the collection and its course associations. The courses remain, but links and embeds using that collection need updating.

Can a client’s users see recommended courses inside their account?
No. A learner’s account shows only their own courses, orders and saved courses, not your collections. Share the collection’s link with the client, or embed the collection on a page their users visit.

Can customers filter an embedded collection by category or tag?
No. An embed set to A Collection does not offer the Category or Tags filter.
