Use a Signature field on a General form to collect a drawn or typed signature, for example to acknowledge a course handbook or sign a consent form. This guide is for course providers setting up the form and checking the signed answers.
The person enters their full name, then chooses Draw or Type. Cademy saves the signature with that form response, which is one submitted set of answers.
Which Forms Can Collect a Signature?
Add a Signature to a General form. You can share the form by link, embed it on your website or use it inside an online lesson. Signature is available on every plan without a separate setting to turn on. Your plan’s limit on published General forms still applies.
Checkout and Feedback forms cannot collect signatures. Signature is a question belonging to this form, not a shared Contact, Registration or Organisation field. If you are choosing a form type, see Choose Between a Checkout, General or Feedback Form.
You need Course Owner or System Admin access to manage forms. A public General form also requires an email address, but the person does not need to sign in to complete its published link or website embed.
Add a Signature Field to a General Form
In your Cademy dashboard, open Forms and select your General form. To create one, select New Form → General, enter its Name and select Create Form.
Open Form Editor. To show the agreement or acknowledgement above the signature, select Add Field → New Custom Field… → Statement. Enter its Label and the text under Statement, then select Add Field.
Select Add Field → New Custom Field… → Signature. Enter a Label, such as “Your signature”, then select Add Field.
Open the Signature field’s Field Options. Turn on Required if everyone who sees the field must sign. Select Save in the options window.
Check that the Statement is above the Signature field. Use Drag to Reorder to move a field if needed, then select Save at the top of the form.
A required signature needs a full name and either a drawing or the typed-name option. An optional signature can be left completely blank. Once someone starts an optional signature, they must finish it or clear both the name and drawing before submitting.
A Signature field can be shown only when an earlier answer matches a condition. A hidden signature does not block submission, even if Required is on. The signature itself cannot be the answer that controls another field. Creating or changing conditions requires Teams, Custom or an account with Conditional Fields included; see Show or Hide Form Questions Based on Answers.
Share the Signature Form or Add It to a Lesson
For a public link or website embed, publish the General form and follow Create and Share a Survey or Enquiry Form (General Form). Anyone with access to that published form can submit it.
For a course handbook acknowledgement inside a lesson, add the General form as a Form block. A General form used only in lessons can stay in Draft and does not use a published-form slot. The course and lesson must still be available to the learner. Follow Add Forms to Lessons to place the form and choose whether submission is required before lesson completion or access to later lessons.
How Someone Draws or Types Their Signature
The person completing the form enters their full name in the Signature field, then chooses how to sign:
Draw: draw in the signature box. Select Clear to remove the drawing and try again. The name remains in place.
Type: use the entered name as the signature. The form shows it in a handwriting style; no drawing is needed.
After completing the form’s other required questions, select its submit button. The signature is saved only when the response is submitted. If the form asks for a full name, fill in the name inside the Signature field. If it asks for a drawing, draw in the box or switch to Type.
Inside a lesson, a successful submission shows a saved receipt with the answers and submission date. The Signature answer appears as Signed by followed by the entered name. The learner cannot edit or submit that lesson form again for the same Registration, which is their place on the course. Submitting the form does not complete the lesson by itself.
View a Submitted Signature
Open Forms, select the General form, then open Responses.
The Signature field’s column shows the signer’s name. If the column is hidden, open View → Columns and show the question’s label.
Select the response and expand Answers if needed. The signature appears with the signer’s name, Drawn or Typed, and the submission date and time. An optional signature left blank has no signature to display.
Submitted signatures are read-only. Your team cannot change the name, replace the drawing or clear the signature by editing the response. Removing the question from the form does not remove signatures already saved in earlier responses.
Signatures do not appear as charts in Reports and cannot be used as answer filters, sort fields or internal team columns. To find lesson submissions, use Filter → Source → Lesson. See Find and Manage Form Responses (Submitted Answers) for the other response routes and controls.
What Signature Exports and Notifications Include
A response CSV export includes the signer’s name under the Signature question’s label and a second column with the same label followed by Method. The method is Drawn or Typed. A blank optional signature gives two empty cells. The export contains no image of the signature.
If you export the visible response columns, show the Signature question under View → Columns first. Follow the CSV steps in Find and Manage Form Responses (Submitted Answers).
When your form’s settings send your team a new-response notification, the email identifies the signer and method, such as “Signed by Jamie Campbell (drawn)”. An Inbox response summary identifies who signed. Open the response in Forms to see the signature itself.
What Is Saved with a Signature?
Cademy saves the entered name, the drawn or typed signature, its method and the response’s submission time. The Signature field does not independently verify the person’s identity.
Keep the agreement wording: Cademy does not save a copy of the Statement text with each signature. If you edit that text later, the signature response does not record which wording the person saw. Keep your own dated copy of the agreement if you need that record.
This feature does not create a signed PDF, offer a signature-image download or automatically email a signed copy to the person. A General form’s confirmation email is a separate setting, not a signed-document copy.
