SCORM packages are interactive e-learning files created in a separate course-authoring tool. In Cademy, you can add a SCORM 1.2 package to a lesson in an on-demand or blended course, choose how it is displayed and decide whether learners must complete it before they can finish the lesson.

Who can use this?
System Admins and Course Owners can add and edit course content. SCORM must be included in your Cademy plan or enabled for your account. If you are not sure whether you have access, contact Cademy support.

Before you upload a package

Export the course from your authoring tool as SCORM 1.2. SCORM 2004 is not supported.
Upload the .zip file exported by your authoring tool. Do not extract it or place it inside another folder before uploading.
The package must contain a valid imsmanifest.xml file at the top level of the ZIP.
Set the completion rule in your authoring tool before exporting. Cademy can only use the completion status that the package reports.

Cademy hosts and launches the package, but it does not create or edit the content inside it.

Add a SCORM package to a lesson

Go to admin.cademy.io and sign in.
Select Courses from the left menu.
Open an on-demand or blended course, select Edit Course, then open Contents.
Open an existing lesson or create a new lesson.
On an empty line, type / and select SCORM.
Select Upload File to upload a new SCORM 1.2 ZIP, or select Media Library to reuse a package already uploaded to your account.
Wait for processing to finish. A ready block shows the package name and SCORM 1.2.
Choose Inline or Full Screen under Presentation.
Turn on Students must complete this package to finish the lesson if the package should block lesson completion until it reports a completed or passed status.
Select Save.

SCORM must be added on its own top-level line. If it is unavailable in the slash menu, move the cursor to a new line outside any other content or layout block. It cannot be added inside a table, columns, toggle, callout, Media & Text block, Quiz block or another SCORM block.

Choose how the package is displayed

Inline

The package appears at its normal size inside the lesson, alongside any other lesson content. After it loads, learners can select Full Screen to expand it and Exit Full Screen to return to the lesson. They can also press Escape on a keyboard to exit.

Full Screen

The package fills the lesson viewer automatically. Use this when the SCORM package is the only content in the lesson.

If the course contains only one lesson, Cademy also hides the lesson navigation pane so the package has more space. Courses with more than one lesson keep the lesson navigation available.

Control completion and learner progress

When Students must complete this package to finish the lesson is turned off, the SCORM package does not block the learner from finishing the lesson.

When it is turned on:

The lesson completion button is disabled until the package reports completed or passed.
The disabled button says Complete the course content to Continue.
After the package reports completion, the learner must still select Complete & Continue, or Mark as Completed on the final lesson. Completing the SCORM package does not automatically mark the Cademy lesson as completed.

You can add more than one SCORM block to a lesson. Each block keeps its own progress. If several blocks are marked as required, every required block must report completion before the learner can finish the lesson.

For a registered learner, Cademy saves the SCORM status and resume information reported by the package. Cademy does not show administrators a detailed report of the learner's answers or scores inside the SCORM package.

A learner does not need an Order if they have a valid Registration created in Cademy. For a blended course, the Registration must be for a course date. The learner can be added through Registrations, an Order or the public checkout.

Test the learner experience

Quick check with Preview as Student

Save the lesson.
Select Preview as Student.
Open the SCORM lesson and check that the package loads, its controls work and its content displays correctly.

Preview is temporary.
Preview as Student can launch the package, but it does not save SCORM progress, completion or resume information. It also does not prove that a real learner has access.

Test saved progress with a registered learner

Use a test learner when you need to confirm real access, saved progress, resume behaviour and lesson completion. You can create a Registration without an Order, create a test Order, or complete your public checkout as a test learner.

Make sure the lesson is Published and available to that learner, then open it from the learner account. Follow Test a Course as a Learner for all testing options and the exact steps.

Replace a package

Open the lesson and select Replace on the SCORM block.
Upload another SCORM 1.2 ZIP or choose one from Media Library.
Wait for processing to finish, test the package again, then select Save.

Replace packages before learners start where possible.
Replace does not reset saved learner progress. If learners have already opened the package, resume data from the previous package may not work with the replacement. Contact Cademy support if you need help deciding how to update a live course.

If the package does not work

The file will not upload
Check that it is a ZIP file and is within your account's maximum file upload size. If Cademy shows Max File Size Exceeded, use a smaller export or contact Cademy support about your account limit.

The block shows Invalid package
Check that you uploaded the original SCORM 1.2 ZIP, not SCORM 2004 or a ZIP you created around another folder. Re-export the package from your authoring tool and upload it again.

The package opens but the lesson stays blocked
Check the completion rule in your authoring tool and confirm that the package reports a completed or passed status. Test with a registered learner because admin preview does not save tracked activity.

The package is blank, does not respond or does not resume
Try a regular browser such as Chrome, Safari or Firefox. If the problem continues, contact Cademy support and include the course name, learner email, lesson name, time of the problem, browser and a screenshot with the full page address visible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload SCORM 2004?
No. Cademy currently supports SCORM 1.2 packages supplied as a .zip file.

Can I use one SCORM package as the whole course?
Yes. Add it to a course with one lesson and choose Full Screen. Keep the package as the only content in that lesson.

Can I reuse a package?
Yes. Add a new SCORM block and select Media Library instead of uploading the ZIP again.

Does completing the package automatically complete the lesson?
No. It unlocks the lesson completion button when the package is required. The learner must then select Complete & Continue or Mark as Completed.

Does Replace reset learner progress?
No. Replace keeps the same SCORM block, so saved resume data from the previous package may still be used. Replace packages before learners start where possible.

Can I view detailed SCORM answers or scores in Cademy?
No. Cademy currently uses the status and resume data reported by the package, but it does not provide administrators with a detailed answers or scores report.

Why can I not see SCORM in the block menu?
Check that the course is on-demand or blended, you are a System Admin or Course Owner, and your plan or account permissions include SCORM. Also move the cursor to a new top-level line because SCORM cannot be added inside another content or layout block.
