This article is for course providers whose business profile or courses appear on the Cademy Marketplace. Cademy is retiring the marketplace. Some parts of it have closed. The article explains which parts of the marketplace have closed, which pages and settings remain, and what the remaining settings do. It describes the marketplace as it works today.
The Cademy Marketplace is the public directory on cademy.io that lists the business profiles created on Cademy and their courses. Your marketplace profile is the page at cademy.io/your-name. Your minisite is your own Cademy website at your-name.cademy.io. It is separate from the marketplace. The Admin Dashboard is where you manage your Cademy account.
Your minisite, the embeds that show your Cademy courses on your own website, your course management and the learning tools your learners use are not part of the marketplace, and its retirement does not include them.
What has closed
These parts of the marketplace are closed:
Course search. The marketplace’s course search page does not list or search courses. The earlier addresses for course categories and collections do not list courses either.
Unclaimed profiles. An unclaimed profile is a marketplace profile listed for a business that has not claimed it. Its address shows Page Not Found, and its claim page does not open.
Suggested edits. Marketplace profiles have no form for suggesting an edit to a profile or its removal.
What remains available
Your marketplace profile opens at cademy.io/your-name unless it is hidden. A course has a page on the marketplace when both of these are true:
The course’s visibility is Public.
The course’s marketplace setting is Publish listing on the Cademy Marketplace.
To change a course’s visibility, open the course in the Admin Dashboard and select Share. The visibility is Unpublished, Public or Private.
A course you create in the course editor while your marketplace profile is not hidden starts with Publish listing on the Cademy Marketplace as its marketplace setting.
A customer can book from a course’s page on the marketplace. Cademy records that booking as a marketplace booking and charges the Marketplace fee, which is explained under “Marketplace bookings, fees and reviews” in this article. If the course is set to send bookings to an external website, the booking button opens that website instead.
Remaining marketplace settings
The Admin Dashboard has three marketplace settings. Two are on the Profile page and one is in each course.
Hide your marketplace profile
Hiding your profile removes your profile page and all your course listings from the marketplace. It does not change your minisite, your embeds or your existing orders.
Important: Showing the profile again later does not list your courses again. On a plan that does not include the course marketplace setting, such as the Free plan, courses that were unlisted then stay unlisted.
You need the System Admin role. Hide Profile is included in the Free, Starter, Pro and Teams plans. If you cannot select the button, your plan does not include it.
In the Admin Dashboard, select Profile.
Expand Cademy Marketplace Visibility. The section shows the address of your marketplace profile page.
Select Hide Profile.
In the Hide Profile window, select Yes - Hide Profile.
Cademy saves the change straight away and shows Educator profile status updated!. The section then says “Your Cademy marketplace profile page is currently hidden.”
After you hide your profile:
cademy.io/your-nameshows Page Not Found.Every course that was listed on the marketplace is unlisted.
A course you create while the profile is hidden is not listed on the marketplace.
Your minisite still opens, and your embeds still show your courses.
Show a hidden profile again
While a profile is hidden, the same section shows Show Profile in place of Hide Profile. Select Show Profile, then Yes - Show Profile. Your profile page opens again at cademy.io/your-name.
Showing the profile does not list your courses again. On the Starter, Pro and Teams plans, you list each course again with the course’s own marketplace setting, which is described under “Hide one course from the marketplace” in this article. On a plan that does not include that setting, such as the Free plan, the setting cannot be changed, so courses that were unlisted stay unlisted.
If you cannot select Show Profile and the section says “This field is temporarily restricted for new accounts while your trust score is low.”, Cademy has restricted this setting on your account and the profile stays hidden. If this does not look right, contact Cademy Support.
Choose the categories and tags on your marketplace profile
The Cademy Marketplace Visibility section also contains Profile Categories & Tags. The Categories and Tags you choose there appear under Teaches on your marketplace profile page. They do not appear on your minisite. After changing them, select Save Changes.
Hide one course from the marketplace
Use the course’s own marketplace setting to remove one course from the marketplace and leave your profile and other courses there.
You need the Course Owner or System Admin role. The setting is included in the Starter, Pro and Teams plans. On any other plan the options are shown but cannot be changed. On the Free plan, the way to remove courses from the marketplace is to hide your whole profile; showing the profile again later does not list them again. The setting appears only when the course’s visibility is Public or Private and your marketplace profile is not hidden.
In the Admin Dashboard, select Courses and open the course.
Select Edit Course.
Open Settings, then select Advanced Settings.
Under Cademy Marketplace Visibility, select Hide listing on the Cademy marketplace.
Select Save.
The course’s page on the marketplace stops opening. The course stays on your minisite and in your embeds. The other option, Publish listing on the Cademy Marketplace, lists the course on the marketplace again.
Marketplace bookings, fees and reviews
A marketplace booking is a booking that a customer starts from a course’s page on the marketplace. A booking from your minisite, a booking from an embed on your own website and a booking you create in the Admin Dashboard are not marketplace bookings.
The Marketplace fee
Today, Cademy charges a Marketplace fee on each marketplace booking. The fee is 10% of the sale, unless a different marketplace rate is set on your account. It is charged as well as the platform fee of your plan, where your plan has one. A fee from your payment provider is separate from both. For the platform fee of each plan, see the plans and fees guide.
Bookings that are not marketplace bookings do not carry the Marketplace fee. The fee also applies to a membership that a customer buys from your marketplace profile.
When you select Review & Accept on a request that came from the marketplace, the Summary in the window that opens says: “This request is coming from the Cademy marketplace and will be subject to marketplace fees.”
Find a marketplace order and its fee
Orders that came from the marketplace stay in your account. Hiding your profile or a course listing does not change or remove them. You need the System Admin role to open Orders.
In the Admin Dashboard, select Orders and open the order.
In the order’s details, find Purchased via. A marketplace order shows Cademy Marketplace.
In the order’s totals, find Marketplace fees. The line appears when a Marketplace fee was charged on the order.
Reviews
Reviews are saved on your account. Hiding your marketplace profile or a course listing does not delete them. Your minisite’s reviews page continues to show them unless Hide Public Reviews is turned on in Profile.
Frequently asked questions
Does hiding my marketplace profile affect my minisite or my embeds?
No. Hide Profile changes the marketplace only. Your minisite still opens at your-name.cademy.io, and your embeds still show your courses.
Why is Cademy Marketplace Visibility missing from a course’s Advanced Settings?
The section appears only when the course’s visibility is Public or Private and your marketplace profile is not hidden. While your profile is hidden, none of your courses has a page on the marketplace.
Does hiding my marketplace profile close my Cademy account?
No. Hiding the profile removes it from the marketplace. It does not close your account or remove your courses or orders. To close a business account, see the guide to closing a course provider account.
