This guide helps course providers change the wording of a course's buttons and labels, such as replacing Book with Enrol or Join the Programme, renaming the Start Course and Continue Course buttons, or giving the course forum another name. The setting is called Custom Labels and is saved for one course at a time. It changes the words people see; the action and access rules stay the same.
Plans and access: Custom Labels is available on Pro, Teams and Enterprise plans. On Free and Starter, the section is visible but disabled. Use a System Admin account or Course Owner access to the course. For plan information, see What Each Cademy Plan Includes and Costs.
Change Button Labels for a Course
Example of the four Custom Labels fields, under Settings, then Advanced Settings.
Switching sections within an existing course editor can save outstanding course changes. Do not use a tab change to discard edits.
Open the Cademy admin dashboard and select Courses.
In the list of courses, find the course and open its three-dot menu, then select Settings. If the Courses page is showing dates or a calendar instead of the list of courses, select the List View icon first.
Select Advanced Settings, then scroll to Custom Labels.
Enter your wording in the field you need: Booking Button, Start Course Button, Continue Course Button or Forum Name. Each field is explained below. Leave a field blank to keep the default wording.
Select Save and wait for Course saved. If an error appears, resolve it before assuming the wording was saved.
Check the page for the same course. For a published course's booking button, use Open in new tab beside Share. For lesson buttons and the forum, use the learner check below; the public booking page does not show a learner's access or progress.
Example of a course row's three-dot menu in List View, with Settings highlighted.
Labels are saved separately for each course. You can prepare them while a course is unpublished and check the public wording after publication. Cademy shows the label exactly as you type it, including capitalisation, removes spaces at the beginning and end, and limits each label to 50 characters.
Check the New Wording as a Learner
Use your own learner account if you attend this course, or ask a learner on the course to check their account:
Log in using the email address connected to the course place. Open My Account, then My Courses & Bookings.
In My Courses, find the course under Your Courses and select its card.
Select the Overview tab to check the lesson button. An On-demand course card opens Content first, where the separate Start and Continue controls keep their normal wording. The Overview button depends on that learner's access and recorded progress.
To check the forum, look for the tab with the forum name you saved and open it if that learner has access.
For help reaching the correct account and course, see Log In to See Your Courses and Bookings. An admin preview alone does not show a particular learner's result.
Change the Spelling of Enrol on a Course Embed Button
A course embed on your website uses the same Booking Button label as the course page. Change it once on the course and the Full Course Page and Price Card embeds, and the booking action of a Feature Card embed, show the new wording.
Without a custom label, a Feature Card's booking action reads Enroll for an On-demand course and Book for other course types. To use the British spelling Enrol, or any other wording, enter it in Booking Button under Custom Labels and save the course, as described above. You do not need to copy new embed code: the embed reads the course from Cademy. Reload the website page to check the result.
Name the Embed Button and Set Its Colour
Name the button with Booking Button, as above. Custom Labels changes words only, not colours. Embeds use your Cademy brand colour, which is set with Custom Brand Colour in your business profile: open the account menu at the top of the left menu and select Update Business Profile, then find Custom Brand Colour under White-labelling. Custom Brand Colour depends on your plan; see What Each Cademy Plan Includes and Costs. For embed setup, see Embed Courses or Forms on Your Website.
Which Buttons and Labels You Can Rename
Change Book to Enrol on a Course (Booking Button)
Example of a renamed main booking button. The surrounding page design and payment badges are illustrative and do not describe the payment options enabled on your course.
The Booking Button field changes the main booking button for the course, replacing wording such as Book, Buy, Enrol or Apply when that button is available. It works for scheduled, on-request, on-demand and blended courses.
The Booking Button label is used in these places and nowhere else:
The full course page for this course. This includes the public course page on your minisite, the Full Course Page embed and a WordPress course-detail page.
The Price Card embed.
The booking action in a Feature Card embed. For scheduled and blended Feature Cards, the booking action needs an upcoming date available to that card. The separate View action keeps its normal wording.
The booking button on the You're not booked onto this course card. A logged-in person sees this card when they open the learner page of a course they have no place on. The button shows when the course can be booked. Without a custom label it reads Book followed by the course's service keyword, such as Book Course or Book Bootcamp.
To add one of these embeds to your website, see Embed Courses or Forms on Your Website.
Rename the Start Course Button
Example of custom Start Course wording in a learner's course details. The learner must have access to the online lessons.
The Start Course Button field changes the button on the learner's Overview tab that opens Cademy-hosted online lessons before recorded learning progress starts. This applies to on-demand and blended courses with Cademy-hosted lessons.
Rename the Continue Course Button
Example of custom Continue Course wording. Which button appears depends on the learner's recorded progress and access.
The Continue Course Button field changes the button on the learner's Overview tab for returning to Cademy-hosted online lessons after learning progress has been recorded. A learner does not have to finish a lesson before the Continue button can apply.
Rename the Course Forum (Forum Name)
Example of a renamed course forum. Changing this wording leaves the forum's access requirements unchanged.
The Forum Name field changes the forum tab, browser-page title, welcome message and restricted-access message for the course. It does not turn the forum on or give a learner access to it.
To turn the forum on, open the course's Edit Course, then Settings, then Course Forum, set Forum Status to Enabled, and save the course. This settings item uses the word chosen under Which keyword best describes this service? in Advanced Settings. This guide calls that word the service keyword. For example, choosing Bootcamp makes the item read Bootcamp Forum. For the forum's other settings, see Set Up and Manage a Course Forum.
Go Back to the Default Button Wording
Open Courses, open the three-dot menu of the course and select Settings, then Advanced Settings.
Under Custom Labels, clear the field you want to reset. Leave the other fields as they are.
Select Save, wait for Course saved, then check the public booking page, or follow Check the New Wording as a Learner above for lesson buttons and the forum.
A blank field uses the default wording for that label. The default lesson buttons use the course's service keyword, such as Start Course or Start Bootcamp.
Buttons and Wording Custom Labels Cannot Change
Custom labels do not change a button's action, destination, booking process or the learner's access. They also do not rename:
The completed-learning button. It uses the course's service keyword, such as View Course or View Bootcamp, and has no Custom Labels field.
The headings around the Start Course and Continue Course buttons.
The separate Start and Continue controls within Content, or individual lesson controls.
Individual date actions, date cards, lists, tables and carousels, including Book and Book All.
Join Waitlist, Sold Out, Request a Date or Request Group Booking.
Ordinary course cards, search and list layouts, or WordPress course lists. The Feature Card embed's booking action is the exception described above.
The checkout pages, emails sent by Cademy, or the course cards in a learner's My Courses.
Admin dashboard wording or the Guest and Delegates fields.
What Happens to Custom Labels if Your Plan Changes
If the account moves to a plan without Custom Labels (Free or Starter), the saved custom labels stop appearing to customers and learners. The labels stay stored and are used again when the account returns to a plan that includes Custom Labels.
After a plan change, Cademy can take up to one minute to apply it to the wording. Reload the page; an already-open page does not refresh by itself. A WordPress site keeps its own copy of a course page, so that page can show the earlier wording until the site refreshes its copy.
Custom Label Not Showing: What to Check
Custom Labels Is Missing or Disabled
Check the account's plan and your access to this course. The section is disabled on Free and Starter. On Pro, Teams or Enterprise, a System Admin or Course Owner with access to the course can edit it. Ask a System Admin to check these details if the controls are unavailable.
The Old Button Wording Still Appears
Check that the course saved successfully, then reload the page. Confirm that you are viewing the same course and a supported location. Ordinary course cards, lists, individual date actions and WordPress course lists keep their own wording. In a Feature Card, check the booking action rather than the separate View action.
The Forum Name Does Not Appear
Check that the forum is turned on for that course in the Course Forum settings described above. A learner still needs forum access to use it. A custom forum name can appear in a restricted-access message without granting that access.
The Start Course or Continue Course Wording Does Not Appear
These labels apply to Cademy-hosted online lessons on on-demand and blended courses. Check that the person is attending the course and has an eligible registration or order with current lesson access. An Order Contact (the person who booked) who is not attending does not get the learner's button.
Pending approval, cancellation and expired access can prevent access to the lessons. Outstanding payment is not always a block: manual-payment and invoice settings can allow access before payment. Renaming a label does not change those settings or remove a restriction.
The learner's recorded progress decides whether the Start or Continue wording applies. After completion, the button uses the service keyword, such as View Course, instead of either custom label.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the wording on the booking button for all courses at once?
No. Custom labels are saved separately on each course.
Can I rename View Course?
No. Custom Labels does not change the completed-learning button. Its wording follows the course's service keyword, such as View Course or View Bootcamp.
Does changing a label change what the button does?
No. It changes the displayed wording only. The action, destination and access rules stay the same.
Can a label contain more than 50 characters?
No. Each field has a limit of 50 characters.
Can Forum Name turn the forum on?
No. Turn the course forum on separately under the course's Settings. Renaming it does not give learners access.
Why does a Feature Card still show normal button wording?
Check whether you are looking at the separate View action, which keeps its normal wording. Scheduled and blended Feature Cards also need an upcoming date available to the card before the booking action shows. Check the course's saved label and plan, then reload the website page.
