View Quiz or Test Results and Mark Answers

Find learners' quiz scores, assessments and uploaded assignments, mark answers, give feedback, and print or export results.

Written by Artur Binzaru

This guide is for course providers and their trainers who check quizzes, tests and assessments in on-demand and blended courses (courses with online lessons). It shows where to find the results for a whole course or for one learner, how to mark answers and uploaded files, how to change a result, and how to print or export results. To add questions or change marking, retakes and completion requirements, see Add a Quiz to a Lesson.

Quiz: A set of questions inside a lesson. Cademy calls every test, exam or assessment in a lesson a quiz.

Attempt: One set of answers a learner submitted for a quiz. Saved draft answers are not attempts.

Registration: A learner's place on the course. Their quiz attempts and lesson progress are saved on it.

Open a Course's Quiz and Test Results (Progress Tab)

  1. Select Courses, open the on-demand or blended course and select Progress. For a blended course, check the selected course dates.

  2. In the left outline, expand the section containing the lesson, then select the quiz beneath the lesson. Its results open on the right.

Only quizzes in published lessons appear here. Draft and cancelled registrations are excluded. You need the System Admin role, or the Course Owner or Facilitator role with access to the course or date. A System Admin sees every course. A Course Owner, or a Facilitator (a trainer or tutor), sees only the courses and dates they can access, and can view quiz results and mark answers there. What Can a Facilitator, Course Owner or System Admin Do? explains staff access.

See the Final Test or Quiz Results for One Learner

To check one learner's result for a quiz, for example their final test, open the quiz's results in Progress and type the learner's name or email address in Search. Their row shows Result, Last Attempt, Attempts and Best. Select the row to open their submitted answers.

If you already have a learner's Registration open, expand Progress, expand the relevant section and select the quiz's name beneath the lesson. Submitted attempts are grouped under that quiz; use the attempt selector in the dialog to review them. Find Who Is Booked on a Course (Registrations) explains how to find a Registration.

For a manual submission's conversation, open Inbox and choose the learner's Quiz Response conversation. It contains the same marking controls. System Admins can review the account's conversations; other staff need access to that conversation. Automatic marking does not create a manual-review Inbox conversation.

Print Test Results for a Student's File (Physical Copy)

The quiz results and the answers dialog have no print button. To keep a printed or paper copy of a learner's results, export their answers and print the file:

  1. Open the quiz's results in Progress and type the learner's name or email address in Search.

  2. Select Export. Under Records, choose Answers, then select Export Now.

  3. Select Download CSV when the file is ready. Open it in a spreadsheet program, such as Excel or Google Sheets, and print it from there. For a long quiz, set the spreadsheet to landscape or fit to one page wide before printing.

The Answers file has one row per submitted attempt, with the learner's name, organisation and email, the attempt number, the submission date, the result, the score, each answer with its mark, and your feedback. Uploaded files are listed by file name only; download the files themselves from the answers dialog. To print the results of everyone on the course instead, leave Search empty and choose People. Repeat the export for each quiz you need.

Where Facilitators and Admins See Uploaded Assignments and Assessments

When a quiz has a File Upload question, the files a learner uploads are saved with their attempt. To review them:

  1. Open the quiz's results in Progress.

  2. For a manually marked quiz, select To Mark to see the attempts waiting for marking. Otherwise, find the learner with Search.

  3. Select the learner's row. On the file answer, use its view or download control to open the file.

Facilitators assigned to the course or date can open these files and mark them, as well as System Admins and Course Owners.

With Automatic marking, a File Upload answer counts as correct as soon as the learner uploads valid files. To check uploads before a result is given, set the quiz to manual marking; see Add a Quiz to a Lesson.

Files uploaded through a form in a lesson are form responses, not quiz answers. They appear under the form in the Progress outline for System Admins and Course Owners; Facilitators do not see forms there. See Find and Manage Form Responses (Submitted Answers).

Check Quiz Scores, Pass Rates and Attempts

The figures above the table describe the quiz within the current course/date scope and Search. Changing the result tab, score band or other table filters does not recalculate this summary.

  • Took it: the number of learners with a submitted attempt, including attempts waiting for marking, out of the registrations counted.

  • Average: the average of each learner's best marked score. Learners without a marked attempt are excluded.

  • Passed first time: the percentage of learners with a marked attempt whose first attempt passed.

  • Score bands: how many learners have their best marked score in each displayed range. Select a band to filter the table to that range; select it again to remove that band filter.

The table shows Result, Last Attempt, Attempts and Best. Attempts counts submitted work, not saved drafts. Best is the highest marked percentage, rather than necessarily the latest score.

Select All, Passed, Not Passed or Not Taken to narrow the list. A learner is Passed if any marked attempt passed. Not Passed also includes learners labelled Out of retakes. This label means their failed attempts have reached the quiz's limit, or retakes are turned off after a failure. To let that learner continue, see Can I Reset a Learner's Quiz Attempts?

If these views do not fit across the table, open the current view's dropdown to choose one.

Find Quiz Answers Waiting for Marking

  1. Open the quiz's results in Progress.

  2. For a manually marked quiz, select To Mark. It lists learners whose latest attempt is waiting for marking and who have no passed attempt.

  3. Select a learner's row to open their submitted answers. Check the learner, quiz, lesson and attempt before making changes.

The To Mark tab is shown for quizzes set to manual marking. A row with no submitted attempts cannot open an answer dialog.

Mark a Learner's Quiz Answers and Give Feedback

  1. Read each submitted answer. Use the numbered question buttons to jump between questions.

  2. Select Correct or Incorrect for each answer. The score updates as you mark. Review every question before saving; an unmarked question is saved as incorrect.

  3. For a file answer, use its view or download control to inspect the file. If the question has guidance for assessors, expand Marking notes. Those notes are not shown to learners.

  4. Enter a message in Feedback to Learner. If the field is closed, select Add Feedback to Learner. This feedback is for the selected attempt, separate from the fixed correct/incorrect feedback configured in Question Settings. The learner sees feedback on their latest attempt with its result in the lesson.

Feedback to Learner on a submitted quiz attempt

Marking is saved with the overall result. Changing Correct, Incorrect or feedback does not save the attempt by itself. Choose the final result below before closing the dialog.

Save a Pass or Fail Result for a Quiz Attempt

  1. Check the score, pass mark, answer marks and feedback. The score gives each question equal weight. You choose the overall decision, which can differ from whether the score reaches the pass mark.

  2. Select Mark as Not Passed or Mark as Passed. This saves the question marks, feedback and overall result for the selected attempt.

  3. Check for Marked as Not Passed or Marked as Passed. If saving fails or the result is unclear, reopen the attempt and check its saved state before trying again.

Saving a manual response linked to an Inbox conversation sends the learner a result email. Saving that response again sends another email, including after changing feedback. When Notify Me When a Student Fails is enabled, each saved Not Passed decision also sends the course facilitators a failure email. An automatically marked response without an Inbox conversation does not send the learner a result email when you mark it here.

A quiz pass does not automatically complete the lesson. The learner must return to the lesson and select Complete & Continue, or Mark as Completed on the final lesson, once its other requirements are met. See Check Whether a Learner Has Completed a Course. To check the lesson's status, see See Each Learner's Lesson Progress in a Course.

Manually Change E-Learning Quiz Scores or Results for a Learner

You can change the marks and the result of any submitted attempt, including one that was marked automatically, for example after checking an answer with the learner.

  1. Open the quiz's results in Progress and select the learner's row. Check that the attempt you want to change is shown.

  2. Change Correct or Incorrect on the questions you want to correct. The score is the share of questions marked correct, each with equal weight. You cannot type in a score or percentage.

  3. Select Mark as Passed or Mark as Not Passed. The new marks, score and result replace the earlier ones for that attempt.

Saving sends the same result and failure emails as any other marking; see Save a Pass or Fail Result for a Quiz Attempt. A learner's lesson unlocks only when their latest attempt is a pass, so change the newest attempt when you want them to move on.

This applies to Cademy quizzes. Scores recorded inside a SCORM package (uploaded online learning content) cannot be changed in Cademy; to let that learner continue, mark the lesson Completed, see Reset or Correct a Learner's Lesson Progress.

Review a Learner's Earlier Quiz Attempts

When there is more than one submission, use Attempt … of … at the top of the dialog to choose an earlier attempt. Its date and result help identify it. An earlier-attempt notice includes View Latest to return to the newest submission.

Marks and feedback apply to the attempt currently displayed. Check the attempt number before saving. To read answers without changing the saved result or sending a result email, close the dialog without selecting a marking decision.

Export Quiz Results or Answers to a CSV File

  1. Open the quiz in Progress. Check the course dates, Search, filters and visible columns.

  2. Select Export. Under Records, choose People or Answers.

  3. Select Export Now. When the file is ready, select Download CSV, or close the dialog and receive the file by email.

Export Quiz Results with the People and Answers record choices
  • People: one row per matching learner, with the result columns visible in the table. It can include learners who have not taken the quiz.

  • Answers: one row per submitted attempt for the matching learners, with their answers, question marks and attempt result. Saved drafts are excluded. A learner with no submitted attempts has no Answers row. File-upload answers contain file names, not the files themselves.

The file uses the quiz's current question wording and leaves out answers to removed questions. Export answers before changing or removing questions if you need to keep the earlier records.

Filters choose the learners included; Answers then includes their submitted attempts, including earlier attempts. Quiz exports cannot be scheduled. For download and other export guidance, see Export or Download Your Data as a CSV File.

Why Is a Learner's Quiz Submission Missing?

  • Check that the learner submitted their answers. Saved draft answers are not submitted attempts.

  • Check the course, selected blended dates and the learner's Registration. Course Progress shows published lessons and excludes draft or cancelled registrations.

  • Check the quiz's marking setting. Automatically marked answers are available through Progress or the Registration, even though they do not have a manual-review Inbox conversation.

  • If a quiz was removed from all published lessons, it no longer appears in the course outline. Existing manual-response conversations can still provide access to submitted work. See the removal guidance in Add a Quiz to a Lesson before changing assessments.

If the expected submission is still missing, ask a System Admin to check access, and give Cademy Support the course, lesson, quiz, learner and approximate submission time. Do not send confidential answer contents unless needed for the investigation.
