SCORM packages are interactive e-learning files created in a separate course-authoring tool. In Cademy, you can add a SCORM 1.2 package to a lesson in an on-demand or blended course, choose how it is displayed and decide whether learners must complete it before they can finish the lesson.
Who can use this?
System Admins and Course Owners can add and edit course content. SCORM must be included in your Cademy plan or enabled for your account. In the standard plans, SCORM is part of Teams; see Understand Cademy Plans, Limits and Fees. If you are not sure whether you have access, contact Cademy support.
These steps use the newer course content editor, with a / content menu and a SCORM card offering Presentation. Some existing courses use an older editor. If your controls differ or a migration message appears, contact Cademy Support before changing existing learning content.
Before you upload a package
Export the course from your authoring tool as SCORM 1.2. SCORM 2004 is not supported.
Upload the
.zipfile exported by your authoring tool. Do not extract it or place it inside another folder before uploading. The package must contain a valid
imsmanifest.xmlfile at the top level of the ZIP.Set the intended completion and scoring rules in your authoring tool before exporting. Test the exported package in Cademy before relying on those rules for learner completion.
Cademy hosts and launches the package, but it does not create or edit the content inside it.
Check completion as well as appearance. Cademy uses a completion status from its SCORM player. That status can change when the package ends its session, so do not assume that closing unfinished content always leaves the lesson incomplete. Before learners begin, test leaving the package unfinished and returning to it, and separately test completing it. Use separate eligible test learners who have not opened this SCORM block for those two cases; previous saved progress can affect the result. In the registered-learner test below, check whether the lesson completion button becomes available at the intended point. Contact Cademy Support if it becomes available too early or stays blocked after all requirements are met.
Add a SCORM package to a lesson
SCORM belongs on its own line at the main lesson level, outside tables, columns, toggles, callouts, Media & Text, Quiz, Form and other SCORM blocks. A new block starts with Inline presentation and the completion requirement switched off.
Go to admin.cademy.io and sign in. Select Courses.
Open the intended On-demand online course or Blended course, select Edit Course, then open Contents.
Open an existing lesson. To create one first, follow Create and Edit Lessons and Course Content.
On an empty line at the main lesson level, type / and select SCORM.
Type / on an empty main lesson line and choose SCORM.
Select Upload File to choose a new SCORM 1.2 ZIP from your computer. For a package already uploaded to your account, select Media Library, select the package, then select Confirm. If you upload through Media Library, select Confirm after the upload finishes.
Wait for Processing… to finish. If the card shows Invalid package or an upload error, use the checks below before continuing. The package name and SCORM 1.2 label alone do not prove that it is ready to use.
Under Presentation, choose Inline or Full Screen, as explained below.
Turn on Students must complete this package to finish the lesson if this package should be a requirement. Read the completion and testing guidance below before relying on it.
Select the lesson’s main Save. Reopen the saved lesson and check the chosen package and settings. If saving fails, check what was saved before repeating the action.
Use Preview as Student to check the saved package, then use the registered-learner test guidance below for saved progress and completion.
If SCORM is absent from the menu, check the editor version and move to an empty main lesson line. If the card is present but its controls are disabled, check your account’s SCORM access with Cademy Support.
Choose how the package is displayed
Choose Inline or Full Screen under Presentation. This illustration shows editor settings, not a running learner package.
Inline
The package appears at its normal size inside the lesson, alongside any other lesson content. After it loads, learners can select Full Screen to expand it and Exit Full Screen to return to the lesson. They can also press Escape on a keyboard to exit.
Full Screen
Full Screen fills the lesson area of the learner’s Content page automatically. Use it in a lesson whose only content is the package. This presentation hides the separate lesson cover, title header and heading indicators; it does not remove any other saved content blocks.
When only one lesson appears in the learner’s lesson list, the navigation pane is hidden to give the content more space. With several lessons, navigation remains available and can be collapsed; smaller screens use a drawer.
Control completion and learner progress
With Students must complete this package to finish the lesson off, this package does not itself block lesson completion. Other required packages, quizzes, forms or access conditions can still prevent completion.
When it is turned on:
For an incomplete lesson, this package’s status in Cademy must be completed or passed. Use the registered-learner test below to check when the lesson completion button becomes available.
If SCORM is the remaining requirement, the disabled lesson button says Complete the course content to Continue. An unfinished required quiz can instead show Complete Quiz to Continue, and a required form that has not been submitted can show Submit the Form to Continue. An already completed lesson shows Mark as Incomplete.
Once all required content is satisfied, the learner still selects Complete & Continue, or Mark as Completed on the final lesson. Package completion does not automatically mark the Cademy lesson complete.
You can add more than one SCORM block. Each newly added block has its own learner progress, even when you select the same uploaded package from Media Library. Every required block must reach completed or passed before the learner can complete the lesson. Duplicating or copying and pasting an existing SCORM block can share its saved progress; add a new block or duplicate the whole lesson when you need a separate copy.
For an eligible registered learner, Cademy can save the SCORM status and resume information and use it when they return. Check this with your actual package; closing the page or losing the connection is not proof the latest progress was saved. Cademy does not provide administrators with a detailed report of answers or scores inside the package.
A Registration is a learner’s place on a course. An Order is the booking record; it can include payment and participant details.
An Order is not required for a learner with an eligible manually added or imported Registration. It must belong to that learner, be active or completed, and have unexpired access. For a Blended course, it must also be linked to a course date. Order-based access has its own payment, cancellation and participant conditions. Use the learner-testing guide below to choose the appropriate setup.
Test the learner experience
Quick check with Preview as Student
Save the course at least once, then save the lesson and its SCORM settings.
From the lesson editor, select Preview as Student. If Save Before Previewing? appears, select Cancel to stay in the editor, Preview Without Saving for the previously saved content, or Save & Preview to save current changes first.
Check that the intended saved package loads, its controls work and its content displays correctly. If an error appears, record it and use the troubleshooting checks below.
Preview is temporary.
Preview as Student can launch the package, but it does not save SCORM progress, completion or resume information. It also does not prove that a real learner has access.
Test saved progress with a registered learner
Use two separate eligible test learners who have not opened this SCORM block: one for leaving it unfinished and returning, and another for completing it. For each return check, use the same learner account, course place and lesson as that attempt. Ending an unfinished session can itself change the saved status. Changing the Cademy lesson status or replacing the package does not reset SCORM progress. The linked testing guide explains manually added Registrations, test Orders and checkout options; choose the appropriate route before creating records or sending any notifications.
Make sure the lesson is Published and available to that learner, then open it from the learner account. Follow Test a Course as a Learner for all testing options and the exact steps. Use a learner identity without administrator access when checking which lessons ordinary learners can see; an administrator’s own Registration can still expose unpublished lessons.
Replace a package
Replace packages before learners start where possible.
Replace does not reset saved learner progress. If learners have already opened the package, resume data from the previous package may not work with the replacement. Contact Cademy support if you need help deciding how to update a live course.
Open Courses > course > Edit Course > Contents, then the intended lesson. Select Replace on its SCORM card.
In Media Library, select the replacement package, or upload another SCORM 1.2 ZIP using the area labelled Drop files here or click to select and upload. After choosing or uploading the intended file, select Confirm.
Wait for Processing… to finish. Stop and investigate Invalid package or an upload error; the package name/version is not proof it works.
Select the main Save. Reopen the lesson and check the saved replacement. If saving reports an error, check what was saved before trying again.
Test the saved replacement in Preview as Student. Use an eligible registered learner to check actual access, completion and compatibility with any previous resume data. Preview Without Saving would show the previously saved package.
If the package does not work
The file will not upload
Check that it is the original exported ZIP and is within your account’s maximum file upload size. An upload can show Failed to upload the SCORM package; some upload routes show Max File Size Exceeded for the size limit. If needed, use a smaller export or ask Cademy Support to check the account limit. No single upload limit applies to every account.
The block shows Invalid package
Check that you uploaded the original SCORM 1.2 ZIP, not SCORM 2004 or a ZIP you created around another folder. Re-export the package from your authoring tool and upload it again. Invalid package can also result from a processing error. If a fresh valid export still fails, contact Cademy Support with the package name and exact message.
The package opens but the lesson stays blocked
Check the completion and scoring rules in your authoring tool. In the registered-learner test, check whether the lesson completion button becomes available when the intended requirements are met. If it stays blocked, check every required SCORM block, quiz and form, not just this package. Admin preview does not save tracked progress. If the package’s result and the lesson completion button disagree, contact Cademy Support with the course, lesson and steps that produced the result.
The package is blank, does not respond or does not resume
Try a regular browser such as Chrome, Safari or Firefox. On a work, school or other managed network, a firewall or web filter can block SCORM content; see Allow Cademy on a Restricted Network. If the problem continues, contact Cademy support and include the course name, learner email, lesson name, time of the problem, browser and a screenshot with the full page address visible.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upload SCORM 2004?
No. Cademy currently supports SCORM 1.2 packages supplied as a .zip file.
Can I use one SCORM package as the whole course?
Yes. Add it to a course with one lesson and choose Full Screen. Keep the package as the only content in that lesson.
Can I reuse a package?
Yes. Add a new SCORM block and select Media Library, choose the uploaded package, then select Confirm and save the lesson. A new block has separate learner progress; duplicating or pasting an existing block is different and can share its saved progress.
Does completing the package automatically complete the lesson?
No. For an incomplete lesson, every required package, quiz and form must satisfy its completion rule first. The learner then selects Complete & Continue, or Mark as Completed on the final lesson. In the registered-learner test, check when the lesson completion button becomes available; completing one package may not satisfy all lesson requirements. Completed lessons count towards the participant’s course completion; see Understand Course Completion Status.
Does Replace reset learner progress?
No. Replace keeps the same SCORM block, so saved resume data from the previous package may still be used. Replace packages before learners start where possible.
Can I view detailed SCORM answers or scores in Cademy?
No. Cademy does not currently provide administrators with a detailed answers or scores report for a SCORM package. It uses the player’s status and saved resume information for learner progress.
Why can I not see SCORM in the block menu?
Check that you are editing an On-demand online course or Blended course as a System Admin or Course Owner. These steps use the newer course content editor. Move to an empty line at the main lesson level, outside other content or layout blocks. If the SCORM card appears but its controls are disabled, check your plan or account access with Cademy Support.
Where can I learn about the rest of the lesson editor?
See Create and Edit Lessons and Course Content.
