Use Completion to see whether each participant has started, is still working, did not complete, or completed their course. This guide is for course providers and administrators using the Registrations pages.
Registration: One participant's individual place on a course or course date.
Completion is separate from the Registration's Status. Status records whether the Registration is Active, Pending, Cancelled or another administrative state. Completion records the participant's course progress or outcome.
Find a participant's Completion
Find the participant. The Completion column is shown by default.
Select the Registration row to open its side sheet. The Completion badge appears at the top.
You can also open Courses, select a course, then select Registrants to see Completion for that course.
If the Completion column is hidden, select Columns and turn on Completion. Turn on Completion Date when you also need the date the participant first completed. Cademy remembers the table layout in the current browser.
Understand the four Completion statuses
Not Started: No attendance or completed online lesson currently counts towards completion.
In Progress: Some required attendance or online lessons are complete, but the participant has not met every requirement.
Not Completed: An attendance outcome has been recorded, but none of the required sessions currently count as attended.
Completed: The participant has met every attendance and online lesson requirement that applies to the course.
Opening an online lesson is not enough to change Completion. The lesson must be completed before it counts.
How Completion works for each course type
Single-session classroom or live online course: The Registration is Not Started before attendance is recorded, Completed when marked Attended, and Not Completed when marked Absent. It does not use In Progress.
Multi-session course: The Registration is Not Started while no attendance is recorded. It becomes In Progress after at least one required session is marked Attended, and becomes Completed only when every required session is attended. It is Not Completed when attendance has been recorded but no required session is attended.
On-demand course: The Registration is Not Started until at least one published lesson is completed, In Progress after some published lessons are completed, and Completed at 100% lesson progress. An on-demand Registration does not use Not Completed.
Blended course: The participant must attend every required session and complete every published lesson. Completing only the attendance or only the online learning leaves the Registration In Progress. If attendance is recorded but no session is attended and no lesson is completed, it is Not Completed.
On-request course: Submitting a request does not complete a course. Once the participant has a Registration for the arranged course date, attendance controls Completion in the same way as a scheduled course.
Important: An on-demand course needs at least one published lesson before its Registrations can complete automatically.
Understand Completion Date
Completion Date records the first time the Registration became Completed. It does not change if the participant later completes the course again.
If attendance or lesson progress is corrected after completion, the current Completion status can move back to In Progress or Not Completed. The original Completion Date remains, and the Registration side sheet shows First completed beside the status.
This means a Registration can have a Completion Date while its current Completion status is not Completed.
Filter Registrations by Completion
Select Filter, then select Add Filter.
Under Registration, select Completion.
Choose Not Started, In Progress, Not Completed or Completed.
Select Apply.
Use Completion Date as a separate filter when you need Registrations that first completed within a particular date range. Save the filter when you want to use the same view again.
Export Completion information
Open the main Registrations page, an organisation's Registrations tab or a course's Registrants tab.
Apply the required filters.
Select Export.
Select Choose Columns.
Add Completion Status and Completion Date.
Select Now, then select Export Now.
The Completion Status export column uses the same four values shown in Cademy. The export includes every Registration matching the filters and page scope, not only the current table page.
For all Registration search, filter and export options, see Managing Registrations: Search, Filter, and Export.
Correct an incorrect Completion status
Completion cannot be edited directly. Correct the information that controls it:
For a scheduled course, correct the participant's attendance. See Attendance tracking.
For an on-demand course, correct the participant's lesson progress. See Change a Learner's Lesson Progress.
For a blended course, check both attendance and lesson progress. Use Attendance tracking for attendance and Change a Learner's Lesson Progress for online lessons.
Cademy recalculates Completion after the evidence changes. The status can move both up and down so it continues to agree with the recorded attendance and lesson progress.
Certificates and CPD
When a Registration first becomes Completed, Cademy can automatically issue the course certificate and CPD award if those separate course settings are enabled.
Changing Completion does not automatically revoke an issued certificate or CPD award. If attendance or lesson progress was corrected, revoke the certificate or CPD award separately when required.
Open the Registration's three-dot actions menu and select the available revoke action. Depending on what the Registration holds, the action is Revoke Certificate..., Revoke CPD..., or Revoke Certificate & CPD....
If the Registration becomes Completed again while its original award is still active, Cademy does not issue that same award twice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I manually change Completion?
No. Correct the attendance or completed lesson progress that controls it.
What is the difference between Status and Completion?
Status records the administrative state of the Registration, such as Active, Pending or Cancelled. Completion records the participant's progress or course outcome.
Why does a Registration have a Completion Date when it is not currently Completed?
Completion Date records the first completion and is kept if later attendance or lesson progress moves the current status down.
Why did opening a lesson not change the Registration to In Progress?
Opening a lesson does not count towards Completion. At least one published lesson must be completed.
Can an on-demand Registration become Not Completed?
No. On-demand Completion uses Not Started, In Progress and Completed because it is based on completed lesson progress rather than an attendance outcome.
Why is a blended Registration still In Progress after the participant attended?
Every required session and every published lesson must be completed. Attendance alone is not enough.
Why does the participant still have a certificate or CPD award after Completion changed?
Awarding is not automatically reversed. Correcting attendance or lesson progress changes Completion, but the award remains until it is revoked separately.
Why does an imported or historical Registration already show Completed?
Cademy can preserve a completion recorded before the Registration was imported or before Completion tracking was introduced. If new attendance or completed lesson evidence is recorded in Cademy, the status can then be recalculated from that evidence.
Why can I not see the Completion column?
Select Columns and turn on Completion. Your current browser may remember a layout saved before the column was introduced.
