Find or Download Your Course Certificate

Find the certificate for your course place, open it from your course page or an email, save it as a PDF, and see what to do if it has not been issued.

Written by Artur Binzaru

This guide is for learners who want the certificate for a course they attended or completed with a course provider that uses Cademy, and for people who booked places for others and need those participants’ certificates. It explains when a certificate becomes available, where to open it, how to keep a copy and what to do when it is missing.

Course provider: the training company, school or trainer running the course. The provider decides whether the course gives a certificate, designs it and issues it.

Participant: the person attending the course. A certificate is issued for one participant’s place.

Order owner: the person whose account the order belongs to. The order owner and the participant can be the same person or different people.

When a certificate becomes available

A certificate exists only after it has been issued for your place. Not every course gives one: the course provider decides. Your course page has no action for requesting a certificate.

The provider issues certificates in one of two ways:

  • By hand. The provider issues a certificate for your place when they choose to.

  • Automatically. The provider sets the course to issue a certificate when your place is complete. For an on-demand course, which has self-paced lessons and no sessions, that is when you have completed every lesson. For a course with scheduled sessions, it is when the provider has marked you as attended for every session of your course date. For a blended course, which has both lessons and sessions, both conditions apply.

Attendance is marked by the provider. Until they have marked you as attended for every session, an automatic certificate is not issued, even after the course has ended.

Only the course provider can issue a certificate or withdraw one. A withdrawn certificate is called revoked, and it can no longer be opened.

Open your certificate from your course page

Use these steps for the certificate for your own place. If you are not logged in or cannot find your course, follow Log In and Find Courses You Are Attending or Bookings You Made first.

The steps use the side panel of the course page. On a wide screen the side panel is on the right of the page. On a narrow screen, such as a phone, it is below the main content, so scroll down to find it.

  1. Select My Account in the page header, then My Courses & Bookings.

  2. Select My Courses. Under Your Courses, select the course.

  3. Check which tab opened. A course with a booked date opens on Overview. An on-demand course with lessons in Cademy opens on Content, which lists the lessons: select Course Overview in the side panel to open Overview. If the page has no side panel, select the Overview tab.

  4. In the side panel of Overview, select Get Certificate.

Your certificate opens as a PDF file in a new browser tab.

For everything else on this page, such as sessions, joining links and lessons, see Find Course Dates, Locations, Joining Instructions and Content.

What the side panel shows before a certificate is issued

This depends on who owns the order for your place:

  • If the side panel shows Your Order, the place is on an order in your own account, or the provider added or imported your place. Get Certificate is not shown until a certificate has been issued.

  • If the side panel shows Booked By, somebody else booked your place. Get Certificate is shown but cannot be selected until a certificate has been issued. Resting the pointer on it shows Certificate has not been issued yet.

If you kept the page open while waiting for a certificate, reload it to check again.

Get Certificate on the Content tab

When a course is set to issue certificates automatically, the side panel of its Content tab has its own certificate details:

  • A Certificate line says On completion until your progress shows 100%, then Available.

  • Get Certificate cannot be selected until your progress shows 100%. The percentage is rounded to a whole number.

  • On an on-demand course, completing your last remaining lesson opens a Congratulations window that also has Get Certificate.

These actions become selectable when your progress shows 100%, which is not always the moment a certificate is issued. If a page headed Certificate not found opens, no certificate is available for your place at that moment. For example:

  • Straight after you complete an on-demand course, the certificate is still being created. The Congratulations window says it “may take a moment to generate”. Close the tab, wait a short while and select Get Certificate again.

  • On a blended course, an automatic certificate also needs the provider to have marked you as attended for every session. Open the course from My Courses and look for Get Certificate on Overview, which can be selected only when a certificate exists.

If the course is not set to issue certificates automatically, the Content tab shows no certificate line and no Get Certificate, even after the provider has issued your certificate by hand. Use Overview.

Open your certificate from an email

When a certificate is issued, the provider can have Cademy email you a link to it. The email is sent in the provider’s name, has the subject Certificate for "[course name]" by [provider name] and contains a Get Your Certificate button.

If the order for your place is in your own account, the email can be the order owner’s version instead: its subject starts with Certificate issued and its button is View Certificate. Cademy sends this version for an automatic certificate when the provider has switched off the participant email. It opens the same certificate.

The button opens your certificate in the browser without asking you to log in. Keep the email if you want a direct link to that certificate.

The email is optional. For an automatic certificate, the provider chooses whether participants are emailed. For a certificate issued by hand, they choose each time. A missing email therefore does not mean that no certificate was issued: check your course page.

The provider can also put a certificate link in other emails they send you about the course.

If you booked places for other people

As the order owner, you can open the certificate of each participant on your order. A participant can open only their own certificate.

  1. Select My Account in the page header, then My Courses & Bookings.

  2. Select Orders & Billing and open the order.

  3. Under COURSES, find the course and select Manage Participants. The Participants tab of the course opens.

  4. Open the three-dot menu beside the participant and select Get Certificate.

Get Certificate in that menu cannot be selected until a certificate has been issued for that participant. When it can be selected, it opens that participant’s most recently issued certificate in a new browser tab.

If a page headed No Booking Found or No Order Found opens instead, see the entry for that page under “If your certificate is missing or will not open”.

Manage Participants is not shown for a course where you booked one place and you are its participant. That course has no Participants tab: use the steps for your own certificate above.

If you are attending as well, your own certificate is in the side panel of Overview, and in the menu beside your own row on Participants. If you are not attending, the side panel has no certificate action for you.

As the order owner, you can also receive an email when a participant’s certificate is issued. Its subject starts with Certificate issued and it contains a View Certificate button. Whether it is sent depends on how the provider issues the certificate, so check Participants instead of waiting for the email.

To add, replace or remove participants, see Manage Participants and View Their Course Progress and Certificates.

Keep, print or share your certificate

  • The certificate is a PDF file. Use your browser’s download, save or print option in the tab where it opened.

  • The web address shown in that tab is temporary, so do not bookmark or share it. To share your certificate, send the saved PDF file, or forward the link from your certificate email. Anybody who has that link can open the certificate without logging in.

  • Get Certificate opens the most recently issued certificate for your place. If the provider issued you more than one certificate for the same course, open each of the others from its own email, or ask the provider for its link.

  • The provider can give a certificate an expiry date. You can still open and save the certificate after that date.

The name on your certificate

The name on your certificate is taken from the first and last name saved in your details with that course provider. The PDF is created each time the certificate is opened, so it uses the name saved at that moment.

Before attendance or lesson progress is recorded for you, you can correct your name with Edit Your Details in the side panel of Overview, unless that action is labelled Provider only. While required details are missing, the action is labelled Complete Your Details. See Edit your own details. After that, your name is locked and only the provider can change it. Once it is corrected, open the certificate again. A copy you saved earlier keeps the old name.

If your certificate is missing or will not open

  • There is no Get Certificate in the side panel: no certificate has been issued for your place. A side panel with Your Order does not show the action before then.

  • Get Certificate cannot be selected: on Overview or Participants, no certificate has been issued yet. On the Content tab, you still have lessons to complete.

  • A page headed Certificate not found opens: the page says “The requested certificate was not found, it may not have been issued yet.” Either no certificate has been issued for your place, or the provider has revoked the certificate your link belongs to.

  • The course opens a page that says Access Expired and has no side panel: this is what My Courses opens for an on-demand course after your access period has ended. An issued certificate is still available. If you own the order, select My Account, My Courses & Bookings, then Orders & Billing, open the order and select the course under COURSES to open Overview. Otherwise use the link in your certificate email, or ask the provider for the link to your certificate.

  • A page headed No Booking Found or No Order Found opens instead of the course: the course page cannot be opened for that order at the moment. This happens, for example, while the order has the status Partially Paid under Orders & Billing. The Book Course and Order Course buttons on that page open the checkout for a new booking, not your existing one. Use the link in your certificate email, or ask the provider for the link to your certificate.

  • The course is not under Your Courses: check that you logged in with the email address connected to your course place, then follow Log In and Find Courses You Are Attending or Bookings You Made.

  • You booked the place but are not attending: the certificate belongs to the participant. Open it from Participants, as described above.

If a certificate you expect has not been issued, contact the course provider. Give them the course name, your course date, and the name and email address on your place.

Course providers: to set up, issue or revoke certificates, see Set Up and Issue Course Certificates.

Frequently asked questions

I finished the course. Why is there no certificate?
Finishing a course does not create a certificate by itself. The provider must issue it by hand, or must have set the course to issue it automatically. On a course with sessions, an automatic certificate waits until the provider has marked you as attended for every session. Contact the provider if you expected a certificate.

Why did I not receive a certificate email?
The email is optional, and the provider chooses whether it is sent. Open the course from My Courses and look for Get Certificate in the side panel of Overview.

Can I open my certificate without logging in?
Yes, with the link from your certificate email. Without that link, log in and open the course from My Courses.

The name on my certificate is wrong. How do I fix it?
The certificate uses the name saved in your details with that course provider. If Edit Your Details, or Complete Your Details while required details are missing, still lets you change your name, correct it there. If your name is locked, ask the provider to correct it. Then open the certificate again to get a PDF with the corrected name.

Can I open another participant’s certificate?
Only if you are the order owner for their place. Open the order from Orders & Billing, select Manage Participants and use the three-dot menu beside the participant. A participant whose place was booked by somebody else can open only their own certificate.

My course access has expired. Can I still open my certificate?
Yes. An issued certificate stays available after your access period ends, and the link in your certificate email keeps working. On a course with a booked date, open the course from My Courses and select Get Certificate as usual. If the course opens a page that says Access Expired and has no side panel, follow the entry for that page under “If your certificate is missing or will not open”.
